Tooth Extraction

Safe and smile process to remove unwanted teeth

Why Is Tooth Extraction Necessary?

Tooth Extraction Dalaman, Muğla

At Diamond Dental, we prioritize your oral health and strive to avoid tooth extractions whenever possible. Regular check-ups and good oral care can prevent the need for extraction.

However, if tooth decay reaches the pulp, causing infection, extraction may be necessary to protect your overall health. We are here to help you maintain a healthy smile.

INFECTIONS

If the decay has already reached the pulp (centre of the tooth containing bloods vessels and nerves), microbes from the mouth can penetrate the pulp leading to infection. If the infection is severe or too large, an extraction may be the only solution.

    OVERCROWDING

While tooth removal was once common before braces, we believe in exploring all alternatives first to avoid extraction.

    Wisdom Teeth Removal

Wisdom teeth may need to be removed if they cause recurring pain, lead to infection, or cannot fully emerge in a healthy position.

    Broken Teeth

If a tooth is severely broken and cannot be restored, removal may be necessary to prevent infection and further complications.

    Mobile Teeth

Loose teeth can be a sign of bone loss due to gum disease. If this occurs, we work to address the underlying issues and may recommend extraction when needed for your overall health. Our goal is always to ensure the best outcome for your smile.

    How is tooth removal performed?

In order to ascertain if a tooth needs removing, we will taker an x-ray of your mouth and then decide if an extraction is necessary. Before the treatment, you will be given local anaesthesia to numb the tooth and surrounding gum.

Dependent on how far the tooth has come through the gum, a small incision maybe needed to access the tooth. Your tooth may be cut into smaller pieces to make the extraction easier. During the procedure you shouldn’t experience any pain but you may feel pressure as your dentist rocks the tooth to widen the socket enabling easier removal.

Once the tooth has been removed, dissolving stitches maybe used to close an incision if one was made. In rare cases you may be prescribed antibiotics if you have an ongoing infection.

You are advised to avoid drinking hot liquids, smoking and alcohol and strenuous physical activity for up to 24 hours following the surgery.

    Tooth Extraction FAQs

    Does tooth extraction hurt?

The procedure is typically painless because the area around the tooth will be numbed with local anesthesia. Afterward, you may experience some discomfort or swelling, but this can be managed with pain relief prescribed by your dentist.

Recovery time varies, but most people heal within 1-2 weeks.

It’s important to follow post-extraction care instructions, including rest, avoiding certain foods, and keeping the extraction site clean to promote healing and prevent complications.

We advise against smoking after the procedure because it can cause different complications. Smoking can also cause formed blood clots to unsettle, resulting in a painful dry socket. The blood clot is vital for the healing process.

Tooth extraction may be necessary due to severe decay, infection, overcrowding, or damage that cannot be repaired. It can also be required for preparing the mouth for braces or removing impacted wisdom teeth.
